Audition
Information
You
may ask the question, "Why do we have to audition?" We do not
hold auditions to get into CFT. We welcome everyone - no experience
necessary. However, we do try to give the students a realistic
view of what real theater is like (without wordly influence) and
auditions are a part of that experience. We want to bring excellence
to the stage and glorifying Christ through our collective gifts
is our desire.
For
these reasons, we have auditions to be able to cast the best person
in each role. The best person is not necessarily the one with
the most experience, the one who gets all the church choir roles,
the one with the best voice, etc. The decision is based on both
acting and singing ability, memorization skills, and a heart of
service.
In
order for students to give the best audition they can, they must
be prepared. We allow actors to choose and bring their own audition
piece and song. A memorized piece - a monologue, a selection from
a children's book, a scene from a movie - are examples of works
(anything where acting can take place - no poems, please). The
music can be a CD or Ipod/mp3 player with an artist singing, although
a musical track is preferable (so that the actor's voice is better
heard). The monologue and song should be no longer than 5 minutes
each.
Encourage
your actor to study and prepare for his/her audition every day
to do his/her best. Don't panic. We are an amateur theater group;
we don't expect Broadway! We want to teach you skills; we don't
expect you to have them all.
Auditions
are closed - meaning they are held in front of staff only. We
try to make each actor feel at ease as much as possible. Performances,
including auditions, are given for an audience of One.

Casting
Children
do not always understand why they did not receive a lead role.
THE
MOST IMORTANT THING YOUR ACTOR WILL LEARN FROM US THIS YEAR IS
THAT ALL ROLES ARE IMPORTANT.
We
are not in the business of making little "stars" and "starlets."
Our main emphases are developing skills for theater and life.
Others are fun and fellowship. Every part is equally important.
No matter what role is received, every actor will be on stage,
in costume, in makeup, and having one of the most positive experiences
he or she will ever have. We all win and no one loses when we
are doing theater for Jesus.
